Business Intel to cut 5% of workforce
2014/01/20Intel is to cut 5% from its 108,000 workforce. Instead of lay-offs, the cuts will come from buy-outs, attrition and offers of early retirement.
The move comes after a Q4 results meeting at which a flat forecast for 2014 and an 8% increase in opex (y-o-y) were announced.
The forecast and opex announcements put downward pressure on the Intel share price, but announcements of job cuts are usually positive for companies’ share prices.
It was not stated where the job cuts would fall, but an Irish newspaper said they wouldn’t fall on the Irish facilities.
Last year the market for x86 PC processors fell 9%.
